I-43 Resurfacing: Manitowoc and Dark-brown County

This website details construction scope, schedule and traffic impacts for the 2022 I-43 resurfacing project in Brown and Manitowoc counties. Please refer back to this website for schedule updates and specific dates of ramp closures and traffic impacts.

Location

This project takes place on 15.5 miles of I-43 from WIS 310 in Manitowoc County to WIS 96 in Chocolate-brown County, including all interchanges in the projection work zone.

Project Need

The existing pavement surface on I-43 and interchange ramps in the piece of work zone is deteriorating. This is a resurfacing-level project to extend the pavement service life and decrease future maintenance costs. The living snow fence will mitigate bravado and globe-trotting, which volition increase safe and reduce snow removal maintenance costs. Shoulder rumble strips volition alert drivers who go out the travel lane. The almost recent project on this stretch of I-43 was a resurfacing-level projection conducted in 2010.

Project Improvements

Construction includes:

  • Resurfacing of of I-43 with two-inch mill and 3.5-inch overlay of hot-mix cobblestone
  • Concrete base patching
  • Replacement/repair of various culverts, endwalls and cross drains
  • Install shoulder rumble strips
  • Concrete bridge deck overlay on the WIS 96 over I-43
  • Replacement of beamguard to current standards
  • Replacement of right-of-way fencing

Schedule

Construction is scheduled to brainstorm March seven, 2022 and finish in November 2022. Carryover work volition be completed in spring of 2023 to summer of 2023.

Traffic impacts

Traffic impacts include several closures and detours. Once the contractor begins work, they will accept a better thought of possible dates for construction staging/ramp closures at diverse intersections. Delight check back for updated schedule. *NOTE: Access will be maintained at all times to all businesses and property owners in the piece of work zone and whatsoever closure

  • I-43 will be reduced to one lane to travel to maintain traffic during resurfacing. Motorists could see delays during top travel times
  • Northbound I-43 between U.s. 10 and Canton 5 will be CLOSED from 7 p.thou., Mon, Apr 18 to 6 a.one thousand., Tuesday, April xix for Rockwood Road Bridge part removal.
  • Northbound I-43 between United states x and Canton V will be Closed from 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 19 to six a.yard., Wednesday, Apr 20 for Rockwood Route Bridge function removal.
    • Detour: Motorists volition leave northbound I-43 at WIS 310 and become due east to County R, north to County Five, and then east on County V to rejoin northbound I-43.
  • All lanes of travel will be open up on I-43 for vacation traffic or Packer abode games.
  • The WIS 96 bridge over I-43 in Denmark will exist Closed until May 6, 2022. No vehicles will be permitted to cross the span.

  • I-43/County Chiliad interchange: Open up and ramp piece of work complete. All on and off-ramps at the  I-43/County M interchange in Manitowoc County volition be closed beginning Mon April 18 through Friday, April 29.
    • Detour: Motorist can use next interchanges at I-43/WIS 147 or I-43/County V to exit/enter I-43.
  • NEW DATES!! I-43/County V interchange: All on and off-ramps at the I-43/Canton V (Francis Creek) interchange in Manitowoc County will exist closed start Monday, May 2 through Friday, May 13.
    • Detour: Motorists can use adjacent interchanges at County K or WIS 310 to exit/enter I-43.
  • I-43/WIS 310 interchange: 12-twenty-four hour period closure of northbound on-ramp from WIS 310 and southbound off-ramp to WIS 310 in summertime 2022.

All temporary business signing needs approving via the permit before placement to ensure it is in a safe location and does not pose a visual distraction or traffic adventure.
